“For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 3:11 (NKJV)
Every life is built on something. For some, it’s success. For others, it’s security, relationships, or recognition. But Paul makes it clear: if it’s not Christ, it won’t last. Jesus is the only foundation strong enough to build your life on. Anything else will crack under pressure.
Jesus described Himself as the cornerstone—the Rock that the builders rejected, but which God chose as the foundation of His eternal kingdom (Matt. 21:42). If He is the cornerstone, then everything else must align with Him. You don’t build a life and then try to fit Jesus into it. You start with Him—or you’ll start over later.
Many people try to use Jesus as a support beam instead of the foundation. They want Him to bless their plans, reinforce their lifestyle, or keep their world from falling apart. But Jesus doesn’t come in to assist your build—He is the build. He’s not here to help you hold it all together; He’s here to be the One everything is built upon.
To make Christ your foundation means you find out what He says about life—and then trust and obey Him. You stop leaning on your own understanding and start aligning your choices, your values, and your direction with His Word. The foundation isn’t just something you believe in—it’s something you stand on, build with, and return to daily.
The Christian life isn’t adding Jesus to your foundation—it’s tearing up everything else and building new on Him. Paul knew that every structure—every work, every belief, every ambition—had to be tested by this question: Is it built on Christ?
A firm foundation doesn’t just survive storms—it makes growth possible. And because Jesus is unchanging, you can always trust Him to support your life. He is always trustworthy.
Today, examine what your life is really built on. Are you standing on Christ, or trying to patch Him into an unstable structure? Let the Holy Spirit show you any areas where you’ve relied on something other than Jesus. Then go back to the foundation—and start building with confidence.
